Large Scale Renewable Energy Certificates

Large Scale Renewable Energy Certificates (LRECs), are certificates created from large scale renewable energy programs like wind, commercial solar and hydro under the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target. Each certificate represents 1 MWh of electricity generated from an approved renewable source. 

In August 2009 the target was expanded to ensure 20 per cent of Australia’s electricity supply will come from renewable sources by 2020.
